It’s time! Artwalk Ventura 2024 - Sat 9/21-Sun 9/22🎨🖌️🎶🎥📸

9/21 SAT ONLY 12-5pm: I’ve been invited to exhibit my work at the historic Hotel Washington above the Mission Gift Shop:

225 E. Main St, Ventura CA

Located in a unique 1920’s building, the space is exclusive, with access only through historical (in the past, sold out) tours from the San Buenaventura Conservancy. This is a wonderful opportunity to visit Hotel Washington and admire its architectural wonders while open to the public.

A city and state landmark, the hotel was completed in 1928, with 25 cozy guest rooms (and one shared bathroom).

Each hotel room has a rear window that opens into a narrow corridor, allowing natural light from wire-glass skylights to filter into the rooms.

The former hotel’s interior stairway, U-shaped hallways, handcrafted wooden doors, fixtures, transoms and room numbers are “just as true and intact as they were in its 1920s heyday,” said Cynthia Thompson, a local preservationist and historian. “You don’t get anything more authentic that this.”

Another undiscovered architectural treasure of this building is the original prismatic glass transoms that face Main Street directly above the first floor exterior façade.

These glass transoms began to be installed on all Main Street in the early 1900’s during the City Beautiful Movement. There are only a handful of buildings today on Main Street that retain this character-defining element, including the thrift store (formerly, True Blood Collectibles) located at 230 E. Main St., directly across the street (originally Nash Motor Sales showroom in 1926).
